Dr. Philipp Behrens

Philipp Behrens worked for the Federal Environment Ministry (BMU) of Germany for 15 years before he joined the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) in 2022. He started his ministerial career in the BMU in the climate division and has since worked in various national, European and international areas. 

Before taking over the International Climate Initiative IKI in 2019, the law graduate with a doctorate in public international law headed the Minister's Cabinet Affairs Unit for five years. Since 2022 the IKI is coordinated by BMWK and jointly implemented by the three departments BMWK, BMUV and the Federal foreign office. In this new setting Philipp is in charge of the overall coordination of the IKI.
